Next morning Irene have to packing the package for Uncle Sam that should be delivered this morning. Two box for this cold morning. Chocolate Raspberry Cake and Mocha Walnut Torte each in a big blue box tied white lace ribbon looks the package so beautiful for his grandchild birthday cake. Irene have to quickly delivered it so she wear on her brown coat also her cream knit wool hat and knit loop scarf and hurry up out of bakery with two box on her hand. Irene keep covering her body with mantel because the wind this morning is very cold thus make her shivering. What a cold day.

Uncle Sam house is not far from her bakery, she just need to walk five minutes to get Uncle Sam house. When Irene pass the park she saw a blonde boy playing his blue ukulele in front of the park. He’s cute and playing his ukulele beautifully. Irene just thought he just from lower social or homeless or kind of. Irene just ignore. Just a glace on her mind. She continue her ways down a cold street city.

Five minutes Irene made to get Uncle Sam she knock the old brown door. A few second Uncle Sam come out to open the door.

“Oh Irene! Thank you for delivered this cake. My grandchild will be very happy. Wanna come?”

“Oh no thanks Uncle I still have something to do in the bakery. Just say my greeting for your grandchild.”

“Okay Irene I will tell this cake is by you”

Irene on way back to the bakery and pass the same place what she passed before. She pass the park that placed beside the bakery and still curious about the blonde boy. Slowly Irene approached him.

“What do you play?”

“Oh this is Uke my ukulele” Said the boy with a sarcastic tone

“You play good”

“Thanks”

“Irene! What are you doing?! Come here help me!” Irene’s mom yelled her to distract them from the bakery door.

“I’m on my way, mom!”

“By the way, what’s your name? I’m Irene” Said Irene while give her hand.

“Cody. Cody Mark”

“I’m Irene Larsson”

They’re shaking hand awkwardly.

“Okay Cody nice to meet you! I have go back to my bakery. Bye!”

Cody didn’t respond her and keep playing his ukulele.

Irene more and more wondering about him.

Kling…Kling…

The sound of the bell door.

“What are you doing with that guy, Irene? We don’t know about him. Even he is not from the upper class social like we’re family!” Mom scolded Irene.

Larsson family has principles that only from the upper class social they can only communicate with fellow caste, and are not encourage communicating and making a relationship with their under-caste people. But Irene thought that’s not the way her life. She doesn’t distinguish which class the person belongs to. Irene will always insist on what she likes. She denied the words of her mother forbidding her to talk or make a relationship with strangers. If she like, why not?

“Mom I just admire his music. I love his ukulele sound”

“Many of our families have more great music playing than him”

“Irene sweetie, we’re from respect family. Everybody knows about us. Please keep the good name of our family”

Irene was annoyed with what her mother said.

She just ignored and continue making her Lemon Meringue Pie for display window.

The sun shines on Irene’s room on the top floor of Larsson Bakery. She opened her eyes and down from the bed. Start activities like the previous day before. She grab her phone and check her social media like teenager habit in general.

Irene saw the news on the social media film City Of Moon, which will take place in Larsson Bakery later for some scene. This film will raise the new talented artists. Although Irene has a high caste in a social class, she can’t follow the casting. Irene will keep working wholeheartedly with her family bakery. She will continue to develop this bakery until it can advance to the international level and continue to bring the good name of their social status. Besides, acting is not the passion she has.

Irene was ready with her brown apron, and a white cooking hat. Larsson Bakery has a very good standard of cleanness, hygienic, neat, comfortable, and also fancy.

Larsson Family has set the working hour of each member. Irene has time as the cashier from 7 then will change position with her sister working in kitchen every 3 hours. Her mom and dad also have their own work. Mr. Larsson who has great cooking skills was being headed of their bakery business. Mrs. Larsson, who is no less skilled at cooking, sometimes switches positions with her children.

Many hours already Irene work, she uses her free time to looking for fresh air in the park beside their bakery. And as usually she met the blonde boy, Cody Mark.

“Hi can I disturb you for while?” Irene greet him while sitting on the park bench from wooden.

“Sure. But, your mom will yell you again, doesn’t she?”

“No she’s in the kitchen. She can see me”

“You have a cool bakery. I always want to try it but I don’t have much money. The smell of bread from your bakery is so delicious.”

“You want some? I have this” Irene give one blueberry bread and give it to Cody.

“Thanks Irene. I though you just like those people who are disgusted with me”

“No. I hate that feeling”

Irene glanced at the watch that bracelet in her hand.

“Cody, I have back to work. By the way, I just can’t stop admire your music”

She run to the bakery before being caught by her mom that she was chatting with that stranger again.

Irene knows that she not only admired the music played by that blonde boy, Cody Mark. But, she seemed to fall in love with him. The woman of this famous family feels that she seldom feels in love, whereas many of her cousins can be said to attract a lot of women heart, but not for Irene. Lucky Irene has her own stance. She will not listen to people’s words even if they do not like. This is what she feels. Do not be bothered by her life by falling in love with anyone. Irene believes that not everything that has a high position has a good character, generous, and worth to be proud of. Also people who have a low social have bad traits, and not to be proud or even in friendship.

Days turn like a typical day, Irene busy working in their bakery receives many orders from customers a variety of cakes for formal or informal events. The same view every day, busy people who walking down the city streets while hiding their hand into the pocket of the jacket to withstand the cold winter. Children even teenagers playing in the park next to the bakery. As usual day.

Irene realized that she didn’t see that blonde boy for several days since her conversation yesterday. Maybe he was just taking a break playing his ukulele for a while. She thought.

Did yester she was wrong to say something. Or what? She was wondering. Where the boy does was.

Today is a busy day for Irene. Making cakes for customer order from still dough, long process, to create a delicious cake to eat. She also have to deliver the cake to different places for different cake. What a tired day for Irene. But that’s all she does because of her love for her bakery.

Mr. Matt came to their bakery this morning to order some cake for celebrating City of Moon final casting with some new artist. Casting for City of Moon movie project has been completed and many new artists are appearing after casting this film.

She did not know who had passed the casting for that movie, they must be great people and awesome talent.

At the backstage Irene saw a man who looked familiar, Irene had seen before. She keep looking to the man from the distance. A few seconds Irene trying to ignore, it must be just resemble those she know. But then Irene turned back to look the man. Irene was surprised when she realized the man was Cody Mark. What is he doing here? Irene thought in the heart. It must be just similar. Cody is just ordinary person from unfamiliar family, how can he be run his career in the film industry like this? Irene kept wondering in her heart, her heart was pounding fast.

This is just a coincidence or indeed he deliberately follows the casting of this movie. Irene did not want to be too confident. Irene afraid to approach him after saw him. Even, if it’s true Cody Mark that she knows, it means Cody has changed now, not the Cody used to. That means he will become a professional movie player. He will not playing his ukulele in the park next to her bakery anymore. No wearing a shabby shirt anymore. His appearance is different now after a few months he absent from Irene’s eye.

A few moments later Cody’s scene was began. She sees that man in his scene in the table. He act very well like a professional film player, no doubt in her movement. Appearance looks better with a little bit makeup and fragrant, clean clothes.

After Cody finish his scene, he go back to backstage to take rest for next scene. Irene dare herself to approach him.

“Hey Cody! Still remember me?”

“Hey Irene! Nice to see you again. Sorry I’m not telling you about this. I try to show all of you that I can be better without have to know how the process that I run.”

“Oh Cody I’m impressed with your acting skill. Good luck for your career!”

“Irene come to our gala premiere in Regal Cinema this spring, okay?” Cody said with a smile on his face.

Her heart was even more thrilling, and blushing on her face.

“Okay I’ll schedule it”

Final Writing: Knowing The Unknown (Fiction)

Syafitri Athaya Oktari/180410150053

She didn’t think that it would help her.

She was about to sleep when she suddenly remember that she used a similar-to-Omegle app once. People would probably make fun of her when they know that she used that app to talk to strangers about the problems she was having. She didn’t intend to do that at first, but she really needed someone to talk to about something because her parents thought that she was exaggerating so they didn’t say much. Bu she wasn’t. That’s why she did it and hasn’t told anyone about it.

You see, Aila had always been struggling with socializing since she was little. She didn’t, still doesn’t, have the courage to talk to someone first. That’s why she spent her lunch break alone at school and went back home alone. She was the person who would join any group that lack member whenever there was a group project. That hadn’t changed even when she entered middle school and stayed that way when she entered high school. But she never felt lonely. Being alone was fine for her.

Well, at least, until she was faced with a problem she never had before.

It all started when she was hospitalized because of typhus. In the room she was hospitalized in, there were 3 people. One of them was an elder who had stroke and a heart attack. Not that she meant to, but she heard that he had done a surgery a couple months ago in order to get better but nothing much happened ever since that, even according to the doctor who regularly checked up on him, his laboratory result came out fine. At midnight, he would often scream loudly or shiver for some unknown reasons then the nurse would come and handle him. He also threw up a lot. He was like that for a couple days. One morning she woke up only to find the bed empty. One of the nurses said the elder had passed away from another heart attack.

She got back from the hospital feeling really well but the next day she had a headache, her stomach hurt and she felt nauseous. She would feel full quickly even when she hasn’t finished her food. It kept going for days even after she took medicine, so she went to see the doctor. The doctor said that there was a problem with digestion system then she was forbidden from eating spicy and sour foods, and was given medicines to take. So she changed her eating habits, started eating healthily, and took the medicines the doctor gave her.

However, the only things that’s gone was her headache.

It had been 2 weeks yet she still felt nauseous and her stomach still hurt. Not only she started being worried, her parents were worried too. So her parents took her to see an internist. Her internist said that she had gastritis so she was given more medicine to take and told to come back 10 days later. But even after 10 days, her stomach was still hurt. Curious and worried at the same time, her parents to another hospital to see a gastroenterologist. The doctor even did an ultrasound to her. Again, everything came out fine. She was physically fine.

But then he asked her, “Have you been stressing out about something?”

“Not exactly, no… Why?” she asked

“You see, from what I see based on your ultrasound result, everything looks fine and since you said that you’ve been eating healthily, the reason why your stomach has been hurting is probably because you’re stressed about something so you couldn’t feel calm, or perhaps you are overthinking so it stressed you out.”

She kept repeating the question the gastroenterologist asked her. Was she stressing out about something? She didn’t think so. There was nothing in particular that disturb her mind. Well, not exactly nothing. She had college tasks to do and her exams were about to come. But they didn’t stress her out. So… what’s wrong with her?

“I’m not going to give you any more medicines since I don’t think it is necessary. Just take the current ones you have, don’t forget to work out, and don’t be stressed.”

She felt a lot better since she talked to the gastroenterologist, though her stomach still hurt at least she knew that there was nothing wrong with her. Truth was she had been panicking about her stomach being hurt even weeks after she had taken all the medicines the doctors gave to her. She didn’t like it when she was panicking because she couldn’t think straight and she could feel her heart beat faster than usual. She read it somewhere that we have to be careful when our heart’s rhythms are abnormal because it’s one of the symptoms of a heart attack. She had been scared of heart attack because heart attack killed the elder next to her at the hospital. Every time her heart beats faster than usual she would ask herself whether she had a heart attack or—

Oh.

It was all obvious.

It was quite dangerous for her to think that way. People’s mind works quite powerfully, you know? No wonder she hadn’t been able to sleep these past few weeks. She’d sleep for one or one and a half hours only to stay awake until morning. Perhaps she wasn’t overthinking. It was totally normal for her to worry that something unexpected might happen. A heart attack, for example.

Who was she kidding? She was scared that it would happen to her all of sudden.

But these days, it wasn’t heart attack that scared her. The little things like a headache or a bruise worried her sometimes. The point is she was afraid of being sick. It worried her so much she even asked herself, “Am I really okay? Why do I have a feeling that I’m not?” right after she got back from the hospital. Since it was dangerous to keep thinking that there was something wrong with her even after being told that there wasn’t, she had to find a way to overcome her fear of being sick.

She tried some things she liked to distract herself from having negative thoughts about herself, such as watching anime and TV series, reading Japanese comics, she even went as far as learning Japanese. They did distract her but only until she finished doing them all. When she was about to sleep is another thing. She still couldn’t sleep for five or six hours, she would wake up at two am then stay awake until six am. She didn’t want to tell her parents about what happened to her but she realized that she needed someone to talk to, so she decided to tell her mother everything.

“Aila, you’re not sick. You heard it yourself from the doctor that you’re okay. Why are you suddenly afraid that you’re sick?” asked Aila’s mom.

“I know that, and I have been trying to convince myself that I’m fine. I tried not to think about it but I didn’t go well. That’s why I think I should talk to someone and you know you’re the only person I’d talk to about my problems.” said Aila.

“If I were you, I’d distract myself. Try doing that anime or TV series marathon you usually do.”

“Done that. Didn’t work.”

“Read the comics or novels you haven’t finished reading.”

“Tried that, also didn’t work.”

“Try cardio.”

“Also did that, actually gets worse because when I had just finished, I was afraid that my heart’s rhythms wouldn’t go back to normal.”

“You’re exaggerating.”

“I’m realistic.”

“You’re overthinking.”

“And you’re not helping me right now.”

“Look, you’re an adult already. It’s not that I don’t want to help you, but I’m also confused about how to face this kind of thing. Also, there will be a time where I’m not gonna be able to help you out. Why don’t you try talk to a psychologist or something? In fact, I think it’s time for you to start socializing. You’ll need help from someone else eventually” suggested Aila’s mom

“I’ve been handling things just fine on my own.”

“How about this one?”

Aila went silent. “I just never had this kind of problem, that’s all.”

“Why are you so stubborn?” asked Aila’s mom, annoyed. “Look, socializing isn’t as bad as you think. Which one is scarier, a heart attack or socializing?”

Honestly? Both.

“Alright, mom. Alright.” Not wanting to be a burden on her parents, she made an appointment with a psychologist from her campus for next week.

After years of avoiding people, this time, she would actually try to socialize like her mother told her to and she had figured out how. She had found a way that she could try, she found it in a comic book she read. The main character in the comic talked to someone he barely know about the problem he’s having because he felt more comfortable that way for some reasons. He wasn’t worried that it would be a burden for someone else because they don’t know him, and vice versa. Call her weird, dumb, or anything else for believing that it could also work with her, but there was nothing wrong with giving it a try… right?

She didn’t really know anyone (more like she had no one) that she could talk to first without them finding her weird, so she started with a similar-to-Omegle website that allowed her to talk to strangers. Not exactly the best option because she sounded even dumber than before, that’s why she would never ever tell anyone about this. Not even her mother. She would totally judge her for doing something weird like this.

After hours of using it, she was staring to lose hope. Some guys she met were either asking for her nude pictures or dirty talk with her and neither of the girls wanted to talk to her. It wasn’t as easy as she thought it would be. Right before she was about to give up, one of the weirdest display names she had seen, which was Skeedosh, popped on her laptop screen. According to his profile, the guy was around her age and wasn’t really looking for anything specific. He just wanted to talk.

Exactly what she had been searching for.

So she braced herself to say hi first and the guy responded quite well. They talked a bit until she started talking about her current personal matters.

“Socializing here is easy, all you have to do is type. Speaking is another story. So, dude, this won’t help you” said Skeedosh.

“But people in my class will probably find me weird if I talk to them out of the blue”

“You haven’t even tried. Look, people here are all fake. None of them care about your personal matters or anything. They’re here to have some fun, not to help you find solutions to your problem.”

“I don’t know a single thing about how to start a conversation.”

“That’s what Google are for. I don’t know either, I’ve never had a problem with talking to new people.”

She thought he was done talking and she didn’t have anything else to say either so she went silent until her screen lit up again.

“I don’t usually do this but do you have something that you enjoy doing?”

“Duh. Why is that?”

“Join a community where the people have the same interest with you. Reach them through Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or anything. When there’s a get-together event, try to attend that. Trust me when I say that talking to people whose interests are similar to you is a lot easier than strangers here.”

“Fine”

So she did what Skeedosh told her to. She looked for a community whose interests match hers and she found it. She talked to some people through Instagram and they invited her to join in their group discussion. It was her first interaction with someone else besides her parents and turned out it was fun. Even at the get-together event, when she had just arrived, she was approached by some people whose faces she had never seen but pretty sure she talked to them once. They were like, “You’re Aila, aren’t you?”, “This is your first get-together event, right?”, and “Hi, Aila! I’m the person you talked to on Line last night”. The people she talked to were really nice and kind they successfully erased her nervousness.

After that get-together event, she managed to have a couple friends. Their conversation usually started with them talking about their interests and ended up with them talking about their crush or crying their eyes out whenever one of them have a problem they couldn’t handle themselves. Aila, at last, had someone to talk to and to help her to distract herself from negative thoughts.

In case you’re curious, the community that Aila joined in was a community whose people like to watch Anime and read Manga. To Aila’s surprise, Skeedosh was in it, and his real name is Alfi. She didn’t know whether she should feel grateful for his help or feel embarrassed that she met him. When he found out that it was her, he didn’t stop making fun of her for a whole year. She wanted to protest but she ended up letting him do whatever he wanted to do. She gotta admit that Skeedosh—uh, no, Alfi, deserves a little more credits than she intended to give because he helped her become who she is right now. She is forever grateful of him.

Oh, and Aila’s problem of fear of being sick were solved by the help of the psychologist whom she had a couple appointments with at that time. Alfi and her friends from the community has nothing to with this. But at least it leads her to Alfi, whose help means a lot to her, and whose last name is now also hers because apparently he’s the only person who knows her “most embarrassing thing she has ever done” and he doesn’t want anyone else find out and make her even more embarrassed of herself.

Ha. Real smooth.

Final Writing : Finding Rio ( Non-fiction)

Vinsca Delana Ginting / 180410150060

I was a 15 year old high school student who likes almost every guy who treats me kindly. When a man can’t stop looking at me, I thought he likes her. When a man keeps pointing his camera toward me, I would like him. When a man helps my sister or my mom in the market, I would definitely like him. And it all goes on. I am the only child that my parents have. Some people said being an only child is boring. Unlike the statement, I am so loud and almost every online-personality-test shows I am an extrovert. I have a mom, three aunties, and two sisters who are exactly like me. They all are so loud. I don’t have any secret that her family doesn’t know. When I was about to have a boyfriend, my aunties are more excited than me. My mom does the same thing, but she is a little bit more strictly than my aunties. Just mom being mom.

I almost went to church every Sunday. To preach God is almost every person’s motivation to go to church, but not with me. Well, I do preach and pray but it is not my number one motivation. Number one is for looking a handsome guy. I always thought that my parents must already pray for my well-being and thankful for my life, so I don’t have to repeat the same thing. I have many friends in the church but my mom has more. My mom is always introduces me to every son of the friend of her. Honestly, I hate it. It is embarrassing. The guy might think there is no one likes me. I always tried to stop my mom, but it never works.

One day, in the church, I was sitting far away with my parents. We were come late because my phone’s battery was running low and we were waiting until it’s fully charged. In conclusion, we can’t sit together because there was no chairs that can be sit by three people. Accidentally, I sat beside a very handsome guy named Rio. When walking out from the church, He stood just a half step in front of me. He was so…… good from any side that you want to see him. His hawkish nose still can be seen from behind. He smelled like coconut and I loved it. His height was about 168 centimeters which just six centimeters taller than me. For the first time in my life, I prayed concentratedly to God for wishing that I and Rio can greet each other. Outside, my mom has already waited for me. Unexpectedly, she didn’t greet me but the guy who stood a half step in front of me. I was shocked, happy, and touched.

“Rio?”

“Happy Sunday, tante

“Have you known my daughter? This is Vinsca, she just stood behind you”

“Halo, Vinsca”

“Halo, Rio”

For the first time, I didn’t get embarrass with what my mom did. Two words and I was happy beyond words. His smiles, was shining more brightly than the sun. Just by knowing his name was already made me happy. Our meeting didn’t just stop like that. The next Sunday was Easter. Each person must sit with the people who lived in the same neigbourhood with them. Another unexpected moment, we sat together for the second time. I didn’t know what I had been doing lately, but God has been so good to me. I didn’t know that I and Rio lived in the same street. Mom said, his house was just three blocks away from mine. And, He started to talk with me. I was nervous but way too happy.

“Hi, Vins”

“Eh,hi”

“Highschool or junior highschool?”

“First year in highschool. You?”

“Senior highschool”

“Which school?”

The conversation stopped when Rio was about went home. Thank God, he didn’t forget to ask my line id. Yes. At 09:00 PM still on that day, he texted “Goodnight, Vinsca”. My cheek was more redly than a tomato and my heart beat so fast. “MOM, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!” I shouted. And I realized, I loved him. The next morning I woke up early and checked my phone. He texted me a good morning greeting with sun and rainbow stickers. Couldn’t agree more, that feeling was better than getting a good mathematic score. It has been a week since We texted with each other. The next Sunday in the church, he told me that he want to drive me home. Mom gave her permission. On the way back home, he showed me his home and so did I. When I was about to drop off, he asked me out. OH MY GOD.

“Do you have any plan on next Sunday night?”

“No.”

“How about dinner in thirty-six?. I’ll pick you up at 6. I will call your mom for asking for permission. Shall we?”

“Sure”

Can be guessed, my mom was 100 percent agree with the plan, and my aunties were so excited that the next day we went to plaza to buy some new clothes. And so did my sister. I went to bed a little early that night, because what dream I will dreamed if I had the best day in my life. And, the day has come. I didn’t go to church because I was too nervous to look his face. I was prepared myself since in the morning. I put a sheet of mask on my face for 30 minutes while doing my hair. Well, I looked just fine. Okay, just circles under the eyes. I was nicely dressed, made up, and ready to go. But still, that was our first date. Even if couldn’t be called officially as a date, but it still a date. Butterflies in my stomache. I checked my watch. God, only five more minutes. I went upstairs to my bedroom for the third time. I comb my hair, again and again, checking if my red liptint were still on point. I went down, made myself walked slowly down the stairs, one foot, then the other in case I fell because too nervous. Then, I sat down at the living room. Stand up. Sit down. Concentrate on my breathing, that’s supposed to help. Actually, it did not.

He was sharp. It was 6:00 and there was a knocking at the door. I took a deep breath and walked out confidently. “Ready?” he said. I smiled. Inside the car, he turned the radio on which is all we need for breaking the silence. Many thanks to radio for playing my song, I mean Taylor Swift’s because it gave us a conversation topic. I suddenly started singing.

“You like Taylor Swift?” he stared at me. “I am Taylor Swift” I said. He laughed. And I began to ask who are his favorite singers, actors, and football players. At 06:35, we arrived. We ordered the same food which is two pasta and French fries with two squash lemon. While waiting our foods, there was no silence anymore. He started to ask me about my school, my friends, my family, my favorite food, and my movie genre. So did i. The dinner was so good. We laughed a lot and known a lot. When about to go home, he stared at me with his a little bit trembling hand while about to say something. “Vins……”, “Yes” I replied. “I like you, and I don’t know how is your feeling towards me, but I hope you feel the same thing, I mean my point is I like you.” I watched him in silent. For a second, I really wanted to replied him with yes I do yes I do. But, you know, girls will be girls. Just some common question before replying Yes, I do. “What things do make you like me?” I said. “I like how you dressed, I like the way you respond to our conversation, I like the way you and your family treat me, I like you because my family likes you, I like you because I like you.” My heart was about to explode. I was happy beyond words. We went home after I said “I like you too.”

Monday, February 04, 2013 was our first day became a couple. Monday was never been so good. Outside, the sun shines. Birds call. I still thought it was a dream until he texted me a good morning greetings with heart stickers. God, I was so happy. The first thing I wanted to do before I went to school is to tell my mom and my aunty the happy news. I hope they were not freak out or overreact or anything.

“Mum, me and Rio are officially dating”. And she felt exactly how the way I felt.

So, things had been so good. We were dating for seven months. We always sat together in the church, he sometimes picked me up at the school, we sang Taylor Swift songs in traffic jam, we visited each other houses when there were no homeworks, he sometimes even came to my school to eat lunch together. The most important thing, He never gets tired of my important and my unimportant gossips. On our monthlyversary, we went to cinemas with sneaking the small size pizzas on my bag. I liked him more and more each day. And I hoped he felt the same thing.

Everything was perfect until Rio was about to graduate from his senior highschool. Rio’s dad is a policeman and he wants all his son became like him. To me, to be a policeman is not the problem. Its time and the location do matter. He will take four years training school which he isn’t allowed to go home in his first year, and it is located in Semarang.

On Sunday evening after church, we went to thirty-six to have some dinner and talked about his decision. “So what are you up to?” I started. He started with his national exam schedule. And I said goodluck. Later, he came up with his dad’s dream.

“You know that I am going to take the police academy test” he said, and stopped in silence. “Yes, I know. You’ll make it.” “I know this is hard for you, and for me too. Whether you believe or not, I will keep my eyes on you, and I will text you no matter how, even I know it’s quite impossible”.

After two months going through the test, He made it. He came to my home on Monday evening after the announcement. He looked blissfully happy. I should have looked the same. Instead I looked panic overwhelmed me. I congratulated him with a hug. Inside the living room, he said he will go to the academy on Thursday which is the next two days. On the way to the airport, I said no words to mom. I kept silent while thinking me and Rio were going to end in tears. Get down from the car, we hugged each other and promised to keep in touch. But promise was just a promise. We got no any conversation at all. He was not allowed to give any contact to anybody even his family. He even wasn’t home when Christmas and new year. I gave up in confusion.

One morning, eight months after not seeing each other, her mom told me that Rio will be home on Friday. I was so happy. The day has come, but I couldn’t pick him up because I’m at the school. He’s on his phone, but I didn’t get any text at all. On the way back home, I saw him was playing with his dog. I thought he would come to my house at night or the next morning. But he didn’t. He forgot about me. It is impossible that he’s got amnesia.

Three days later, I still didn’t get any news. I went to church with a hope that we could meet again there. But still, he didn’t go to church. On the way back home, I drove over to his house.

I saw him was about to go somewhere with his car. I was very upset. I felt dumped. As weeks passed, I gathered the courage to text him first.

“Are you in home?”

“Yes”

“May I go there?”

“Okay. I am waiting”

Finally, “Rio?” I said. He looked up. “How are you?” I said. “Good”. “Sure, you are” I said firmly.

I sat down.

“I know why you were here,” He began.

“Tell me,” I sighed.

Before he said something, I asked him did he have any girl in his life at the academy and he said no because he had always been too busy. Thank God, it wasn’t because of another girl.

“We’re all tired now. You are preparing for universities, I am busy with my academy. I can’t keep texting and asking how do you do, how was your day, how is your preparation on your test. You know, no good things happen if we keep this relationship.” “You know, you can’t stay like this. You should’ve known when you didn’t get any text at all. I didn’t want to meet you just to tell his thing that you don’t want to hear.” I was shocked and quiet in silence. I looked him in disbelief. I hold the tears on my eyes. I didn’t want to cry in front of guy who just dumped me. I called my aunty rightly to pick me up. What makes me angrier was he even didn’t feel sorry for making such a promise before he went to the academy.

“I see. I mean, yes you are right. We should end this. But I still thank you for those moment we made. Thanks for making everything clear. I used to love you with all my heart but you give me this. Still, thanks. My mom is coming so yes, goodbye. I hope you will doing fine at the academy and have many good days. See you”

I left. My aunty didn’t ask anything. I looked at the window in sadness. I couldn’t believe that the guy who had become the part of my family has disappeared completely. It was true that what my friends had been saying: if he didn’t text you in two months, then it’s done.

Final Writing:21st Century Love(Fiction)

Lu Jiawei/180110169002

A friend of mine once told me, there is a way to tell if a guy is an asshole, that is if he has ever said “ Don’t you overthink our relationship. What matters is that we are both happy now.” I totally agree with him, because Jay is just the one who always says stuff like this to fool the girls.

Jay is a schoolmate of mine. We hang out a lot. He is the most experienced about girls among my friends. He is also willing to share his tricks of how to hook up with girls, to sleep with them or to dump them. I know this is immoral, but we are all obsessed with this kind of immorality at the age of twenties. It’s 21st century, nobody is serious about love.

Jay has an apartment near our college. He once invited me to hang out in his apartment. I was surprised of the size of his apartment the moment I walked in . There is only a bed, a table and a bathroom in his apartment. I bet his room is no bigger than ten square meters.

“So… You don’t even have a chair?” I asked.

“Of course. So that girls will have to sit on my bed.” he answered.

In the drawer of his table, I found a box of condoms, makeup remover, cotton pads. Apparently Jay is always prepared to have girls to sleep over at his apartment. And I also found some hair bands that i have no idea what for.

“Girls need this to tie their hair up when taking a shower.” Jay answered.

Again, I have to say Jay is totally an insider when it comes to girls.

I’m not sure if Jay will ever “love” some one, but I still tend to ask for his advice when I have troubles in a relationship.

He once taught me a little trick.

“If a girl has the hiccups, you may tell her that I know a way to stop your hiccups. And the girl will definitely ask you to show her the way. Then you may tell her to point a finger on the ear. The girl will do so. Next you may tell her to close her eyes. She will do so as well. Now you can kiss her.”

I had to admit this was a good trick,“ But, what if she pushes you away?”

“ Then you should say ‘ See? I stopped your hiccups.’ ” Jay answered, with proud.

One of my friend has got his girlfriend with this trick. I’m not surprised that all the boys look up to him. He’s the leader among his friends.

Jay always has several girlfriends at the same time. According to Jay, one should never put all his eggs in one basket , because you would never know if a girl will stop leave you in a sudden.

“ what if your girl finds out and ask you about it?” I asked.

“ Then I will tell her ‘ Don’t overthink. Aren’t we happy now?’ ”

What an asshole!

Jay has had so many girlfriends that, for Jay, girls are no longer to love, but questions to solve. When Jay looks at a girl, he will not think if he loves her, but how to sleep with her. However, Jay said he has already tired of this game. He is actually looking for a girl that is similar with F.

Who is this F? F is the question that Jay was not able to solve. F is not that pretty, compared to his other girlfriends, but Jay just can’t get over her. He falls in love with her at his first sight, for no reason. I guess maybe true love always occurs for no reason.

Jay got to know F at their first year in college, but they didn’t get together until their junior year. F turned down Jay because she thought he was too childish. Men loves 20-year-old girls, but 20-year-old boys can only love girls who are 20,19,or 18 years old. Unfortunately, girls are always more mature than boy who are at the same age. Jay is also no exception. We guess F is the reason why Jay was so eager to get experienced about girls. F went to Canada for an exchange program the second year she turned down Jay, which was a good news for Jay. He got plenty time to practice how to get alone with girls and how to be more mature. When F returned from Canada a year later, Jay finally got her. They really had a good time then. When Jay thought he could finally settle down, F broke up with him. F told Jay that she has to go back to Canada for college, because her ex-boyfriend is in Canada and she still loves her ex. We all know F was never serious about Jay. He was the only one that believed F loved him.

The day F dumped Jay, he swore he wouldn’t put all his eggs in one basket any more. He didn’t realize that all his eggs were already broken like his heart the day F left. What he would put into different baskets were just stones.

I didn’t know if Jay ever loved anyone after dumped by F. Even Jay himself had no idea either.

There was only once when Jay was pretty sure he was in love. Let’s call the girl E. Jay said E was just the girl that he is always looking for. She is so similar with F.

According to Jay, E is the same age of F. They both study overseas, F in Toronto, E in Singapore. And the most importantly, their face are just the same. I was really shocked when Jay showed me her picture. “You call this fucking the same?” But Jay still insisted they look so similar.

It was December when E came back to Shanghai for winter holiday and met Jay. Jay flipped. He used every trick he knows and finally got E into his bed in his tiny apartment. He hugged her from her back that night and he found himself fall in love again.

I know Jay was afraid that he would finally get over F and love another girl. So he told himself E was similar with F. He wants to get rid of F, but at the same time he wants to get trapped by F too. I just didn’t know why he tortured himself like this.

After that night, he always tried to ask E to date with him, to have dinner, to go to a night club, or to go to a museum. In most cases E didn’t show up. But Jay kept saying that E was just too busy doing other stuff. Sometimes E would call Jay the next day to apologize and make up some excuses to explain why she didn’t show up. Jay told us about this: “ See? She cares about me, she even called to apologize!” We tried to tell Jay don’t be so serious about E, because everyone can tell E was just goofing around with Jay ,except for himself.

Weeks later, it was almost the new year eve. Jay asked E if she would like to go to his friend’s new year eve party with him. E said: “ I’ll see then.”, just like what she said every time Jay asked her out. She wouldn’t say yes, but she wouldn’t say no either. After the night she slept with Jay, she still went out for parties ever night. Jay didn’t even know where she went, who she went out with, or when did she sleep. Jay was heartbroken, but he didn’t know what to do. All Jay did these days was to listen to “where did you sleep last night” by Nirvana and thought about her. 31st December, E called and said she would like to go to that party with Jay. Jay was excited: “ She finally picked! I know she cares!”

That new year eve was a mess. Jay was totally wasted. In fact no one was sober at last. E did come. But the last thing Jay remembered was that E left the party with a guy he barely knew. Maybe E was likely to go home with Jay if he wasn’t that drunk. After all, she didn’t have the responsibility to take care of Jay who was just nobody to her.

At last, my friends and I took Jay home.

“ Man,you should forget E. She is just fooling around with you.” I tried to comforting Jay.

“ The first night F slept over at my place,” Jay ignored my words, “ she asked me if I have hair bands. She needed to tie her hair up when taking a shower. So I went out and bought some for her. She said ‘if you bring girls home, they will definitely need this. You’re welcome.’ ”

“ Well…” I didn’t know what to say.

“ And the night E sleep over at my home,” he continued, “ She told me ‘girls always like being hugged from the back. You can try this if you want girls to love you more. You’re welcome.’ Maybe this is the moment I felt she was just like F.”

I suddenly felt so sad for Jay and all his relationships he had. When he goofs around, he can always get the girl he wants by his little tricks. But once he is ready to love someone with all his heart, he suffers and lose the one he really cares. Is it what the “love” like in 21st century?

Days later, E asked Jay out to have dinner. She apologized for her leaving at that night. She said she was drunk and she didn’t had sex with that guy.

And E started to have hiccups. She said: “ I hate hiccups.”

Jay smiled: “ I know a way to stop your hiccups.”
