LOST IN LOVE – SHOOTING SCRIPT
INT. CLASSROOM. AFTERNOON.
A tall, slender, wormy-faced boy, extremely bored, looks at his phone while two other girl students before him are writing something on their papers. This is PRAMA. Realizing that the class is over, he immediately takes his bag and leaves.
Prama walks out the class. He sees two girls talking warmly and walks away.
EXT. A BUILDING’S PORCH. AFTERNOON
Prama sees a group of girls chatting very pleasantly and becomes wearisome.
The screen shows “LOST IN LOVE”.
EXT. PARK’S BENCH. AFTERNOON.
Prama sits next to three students working on their assignments. He tries to communicate to them but is ignored and then walks away.
INT. CANTEEN. AFTERNOON
Prama sees another clique having lunch at the same table, but his sight actually focuses on a shortish, baby-faced boy. This is SAKTI. Prama silently grins to Sakti who then smiles back. Prama, embarrassed, smiles to his phone.
EXT. LONG CHAIR. AFTERNOON.
Prama discreetly sits beside a shoulder-length-haired, geeky-looking, and physically attractive girl. This is RAHAYU. They are fairly distant, while she is writing. Prama chases her.
Hello? (looks confident) Hello? (confused)
Rahayu does not answer. She looks at Prama giving hand gestures telling she cannot speak and hear. She then takes her pen, jots “Hello, I’m Rahayu” on her notebook, and shows it to Prama as he takes it. Prama writes “I’m Prama” and returns the book to Rahayu. Both smile joyously.
EXT. STREET SIDE. EVENING.
Prama walks home through the street side with a hesitant smile before entering the angkot.
INT. BEDROOM. EVENING.
Prama lays on his bed, his face looking up on the attic, and gets up to the chair as he smiles. He takes his diary and writes “Good evening, my diary…” Prama pours his feeling and closes the writing with “I THINK I LOVE SAKTI” before finally putting the diary.
INT. CANTEEN. MORNING.
Prama looks at his phone, waiting for Rahayu. Rahayu walks outside and gives a glance to Prama sitting on the chair inside. She comes in with one huge flowery smile. Prama raises from his chair as Rahayu approaches. They both sit face-to-face. Prama takes out a book saying “Prama and Rahayu’s NOTEBOOK” on the cover. He then starts writing on the book and exchanges it with Rahayu. Rahayu reads and writes as well.
EXT. IN FRONT OF CANTEEN. MORNING.
Prama and Rahayu walk together, chatting.
EXT. SAUNG. AFTERNOON.
Rahayu shows hand gestures as if she tells “can you draw?” to Prama. She immediately takes the notebook and draws a spot-on motorcycle image. Prama takes the book and doodles five flowerpots, at which Rahayu laughs. Discouraged by her laugh and his own drawing, he frowns but eventually laughs along.
Have you ever tried speaking? (Using a hand gesture)
Rahayu shakes her head, looking down.
Rahayu writes “people laugh” on a paper. Prama glances at her sympathetically.
The screen shows “The next day…”
EXT. PARK. AFTERNOON.
Prama’s face appears upward on the camera, discovering Rahayu sitting on a bench without moving. Beside her, a seemingly suave boy approaches and seems to huddle her. Shocked, Prama goes to the other direction and walks away with jealousy and disappointment.
INT. CORRIDOR. AFTERNOON.
Rahayu and her friend are chatting with hand gestures. Suddenly they stop as Prama comes toward them. Distressed by the appearance of Rahayu, Prama walks away but gets waylaid by Rahayu. Rahayu gestures the notebook but Prama does not understand it. She insists and forcedly takes the notebook out of Prama’s handbag. Prama defends his bag and the book falls down. Rahayu takes the diary and finds out the column of Prama’s handwriting the other day. Prama withdraws it, and it tears apart. Angry, Rahayu holds the paper, pauses it at the height of Prama’s face, and throws it to the floor. Prama’s face shows guilt and embarrassment, and as he intends to explain something, Rahayu has already run away.
(looking confused) Rahayu, wait!
Prama chases both of them.
Sakti enters out of nowhere, discovers the paper, and takes it.
Prama, it’s yours!
Prama looks back and approaches Sakti.
(glances at the paper) Is it true?
Prama seizes the paper from Sakti’s hand and walks away, leaving Sakti jaw-dropping.
INT. BEDROOM. NIGHT.
Prama lays on his bed as he sighs, with trepidation and guilt. His cellphone rings, and he takes it few seconds after, finding out that Sakti is the one who texts him. The text says “Hey, u awake? If what I read is true, can we meet up? You know what, I think I love you.” Prama becomes more confused and idealess of what to react.
EXT. STREETSIDE. NOON.
Prama walks down the street side, confused and disoriented, about to encounter Sakti that day. While struggling not to cry, he looks far and finds Sakti standing on the campus corridor, waving at him. Out of sudden, Prama becomes near-sighted and eventually blurry. He keeps walking, without noticing that a car is heading fast toward him. The car, as it gets nearer, honks recklessly and beats Prama right before he rolls on the ground.
Montage: The screen shows a ground-angle long road interspersed by some blurry sights. It then shows a close-up face of Sakti, looking with a full of anticipation and fear at the in-between fuzzy screen.
Montage: Rahayu’s face appears on the frame, fulfilling the empty left-hand side of the screen.
Montage: The screen now shows three faces: on each side of the frame are that of Sakti’s and Rahayu’s, and on the center side is that of Rahayu’s friend’s, talking on her phone in distress. Sakti and Rahayu look at each other, bewildered.
